New Year's Resolutions!
Most people start the New Year with a string of New Year’s Resolutions as long as their arm. “Lose a stone”, “Cut down on alcohol”, “Fundraise for charity”, “See family more often”, “Get fit”, “Cut down on sugar”, “Stop smoking”, “Travel more”, etc etc.
But are they ever career orientated? Rarely.
January is a great time of year to plan, and to think about what you want to achieve in the coming year. Whilst writing your New Year’s Resolutions, think about your career for the year ahead – why not add a few resolutions centered around your job?; whether that’s building better relationships with your colleagues, take on more training, taking on new team members, creating a work life balance, growing an area of your business, achieving a promotion, moving to a new employer or hitting targets.
The recruitment market in January can be unpredictable following the Christmas lull and it can take a few weeks to pick up pace – but it can also be a surprisingly busy time, whereby employers look carefully at their teams and identify potential growth areas. The start of the year can be a great time to consider what direction your career is heading in and whether you need to adjust your plan.
Whilst thinking about your goals, personally and professionally, take a second to think about YOU. Find ways of improving yourself as an individual– be the absolute best version of yourself, and your surroundings will improve too. Do you read business books? If not, why not? Read a business book a week.
Do you sometimes feel that you don’t always give 100% in your job? Being really honest? Maybe you are in fact nearing the end of your time there and nearly ready to move on – but go out with a bang! Knock their socks off – get an incredible reference – who knows you might surprise yourself with a promotional opportunity, one you didn’t think was even there.
If you are ready for a career move – or on the flip side, are looking to grow your team, give one of our consultants a call today to see how we can help you. You never know what’s around the corner.
